The day her mother passed away, Beulah was only given a name. That was it. No other explanation.
Portia Van Allan was not someone Beulah could believe her mother ever knew. Wealthy, self-absorbed and other than the fact Portia was supplying special care for Beulah’s sister, Portia was cruel.
The day Portia’s son returns home for the summer, Beulah discovers that Portia isn’t in charge. This isn’t her home at all. Her late husband left her with nothing. It all belongs to their son who doesn’t seem to like his mother at all.
Jasper Van Allan doesn’t know why his mother has hired a young gorgeous blonde to take care of the house and almost lets her go before he finds out the truth.
Realizing there’s more to Beulah than a stunning face, he keeps finding reasons to be near her all the time. It’s all falling into place, it all begins to make sense . . . until the real lies, the dark secrets, and the skeletons come tumbling out of the Van Allan closet. Twisted truths that will send Beulah running . . .
A new trilogy from Abbi Glines? YES PLEASE!
Summer is here and Beulah isn't excited about the thought of Portia Van Allen's son Jasper to return home. Working for Portia is excruciating enough, and if Portia is anxious about Jasper's return, then that can't be a good thing for Beulah. If she didn't need to money and support of Portia to help care for her Down-syndrome sister Heidi, she wouldn't even be here. But she does, so she has to stay. And all that is about to turn upside down when Jasper and his friend Stone arrive for the summer. Stone instantly hates Beulah, and Jasper nearly lets her go. Until he learns about why she's paid so much and gets Sunday off. Jasper is determined to help Beulah, even offering her extra work at his office. Of course, living and working in close proximity brings them closer together, and just when they think they can have a life together, Van Allen family secrets tear them apart.
Ya'll know how much love Abbi's books, so to hear that she was bringing out a new trilogy - this one not being a companion series - I was super excited!
This book felt very reminiscent of Blair & Rush's story from the Too Far series of the Rosemary Beach series - although none of Abbi's guys could beat Rush! And although a lot of people have been saying it's too similar, I don't see it that much. Yes, there are similarities, but Beulah and Jasper have their own story in their own right.
One of my favourite aspects of this book was Heidi and her having Down Syndrome. I haven't read many romances like this that include disabled characters and actually focus on them. While we don't get to see a lot of Heidi, what we do see is beautiful and it's great to see the diversity. And to see how Beulah looks up to her sister is precious.
Abbi's always good with her plot twists and cliffhangers, and I was not expecting how this book would end - it definitely wasn't a thought that had crossed my mind while reading! Talk about leaving a reader shattered! Abbi writes her characters in such a way that you can't help but be drawn into their lives and feel like you know them as friends. And when they hurt, you can't help but be hurt too - why do I have to cry so easily in books!
I'm so glad this iBooks exclusive trilogy is being released over three months because I honestly couldn't wait any longer than that for the second book (which, spoiler alert for that review, was even better!). If you're looking for a cute romance trilogy, this is definitely one you should check out. Unfortunately, it is iBooks exclusive, so those with Apple devices will be able to find it in the iBooks store. Those without, I'm sorry you're missing out.
