Hi, I'm Jamie. I make videos on the internet. Enough people watched them that they let me write a book. I know. What is life?
Inside is my story... so far. Read about my cowboy hat years, the time I dug a big hole and lived in it, and the moment I pulled down my pants at a badminton game.
I'll tell you my top travel tips (drink water), how to have fun at a school ball (don't go), and how to be an adult (eat an oyster).
Oh yeah, and I'll talk about Facebook and YouTube, because I guess that's what got us into this mess in the first place.
Come on in!
You all should know about Jamie's World, if not, stop reading this review and go watch her videos, because they are hilarious!
Like in most YouTuber books, Jamie talks about growing up in New Zealand, getting started on YouTube and her life after becoming 'internet famous'. Jamie has literally gone from a child who contemplated flinging her baby sister across the room, to practically moving into a large hole she dug in the backyard, to finding her inner comedian and starting Jamie's World, to becoming an internet star that makes videos in her PJs and can't adult. Filled with kookiness, recipes, hilarious photos and the classic Jamie Curry comedy, this is Jamie's World in book form.
I've been watching Jamie for about two years now - she's funny and super relate-able (seriously, go watch one of her videos). Her videos never fail to make me smile, and this book was just the same - it was a fun read that gave a fun and interesting insight into Jamie's life. Being a YouTuber, Jamie does share a lot of her life online, but this book lets you into her world a littler more, as she shares stories about her life as a child and before Jamie's World was even a thing.
You can't really judge an autobiography - it's someone's life, so how can you say it was bad? However, I don't think this is a book that just anyone can pick up. You've got to have some knowledge of Jamie before going out and picking up her book. Otherwise, I'm pretty sure you wouldn't be as interested and be confused by her humour. Unlike some of the other YouTuber books I've read, it's not something that anyone can read, you do need to have seen some of her videos first.
This book is such a fun read and perfect for anyone who is a fan of Jamie. Whether you've been around since the beginning or have only just found her, definitely give this book a go. Okay, so it's not a highly-polished memoir, but it embodies that everyone Jamie puts on the screen - it's literally Jamie in book form, telling you about all her embarrassing stories and giving you some advice on how to navigate life.
At the end of the day, the message the Jamie shares with her readers is important, and something that everyone should know and be reminded of.
Say what you will about YouTubers writing books, there's no denying that they are pretty enjoyable reads, especially if you have been fans of them for a while. It's interesting to see people talk about becoming 'internet famous,' since being internet famous is still such a new thing, and these people are still trying to navigate life being internet famous. So if you like Jamie, definitely go out and pick up this book.
