It's Wednesday which means another Top 5 Wednesday! This week it's all about books that you just didn't manage to get to in 2017 but will prioritize in 2018. There were definitely a lot of books that I just didn't manage to read last year, but I managed to narrow it down to my top 5!
For those who don't know, Top 5 Wednesday is a Goodreads group created and run by Lainey and Samantha, with a new topic every single week to discuss. It's such a great way to to talk about different books and your opinions on them, as well as connecting with other members of the community - so definitely check it out and join!
Strange the Dreamer by Laini Taylor
I've heard nothing but high praise for this book, so either I'm only following people who loved to book, or there just aren't that many negative reviews for this book! I've been wanting to read this book since before it came out, but I've just not got round to actually picking it up. I say one of the big reasons why this book is still unread is that fact that it's over 500 pages long and a little intimidating, even though read quiet a few 500+ books last year.
Strange The Dreamer is a book that I also know very little about as I plan to go in blind, so I'm also surprised that I haven't been spoiled on anything - thank you book community for being cautious with spoilers! From everything I've heard, I just know I'm really going to enjoy it, so I really want to get to it soon, especially since a sequel - The Muse of Nightmares - is coming out at some point soon (I swear it was this year, but there doesn't seem to be a date announced yet, oh well.) But whenever the sequel lands, I would like to have read the first book!
Throne of Glass by Sarah J. Maas
My plan for last year was to start the Throne of Glass series so I could fill the gap between ACOTAR releases. Yep, that didn't happen. I got sidetracked with so many other amazing books that I didn't get round to starting this series. It's a series that everyone talks about so highly, and after loving ACOTAR, I just know that I'm really going to enjoy this series too, if I can ever get round to starting it!
My plan for 2018 is to focus on getting this series started and hopefully getting all caught up by the end of the year - if I like it of course. With six books out already, that's a book every two months, which is pretty easy to accomplish in my opinion. The seventh and final book doesn't come out until October, so fingers crossed I can have at least started the books by then. Honestly, if book seven comes out before I've even read the first page of Throne Of Glass, I will be so disappointed with myself. Although, at least then I'll have all the time in the world to finish the series because there won't be any new installments coming out!
Legacy of Kings by Eleanor Herman
I was so excited for this book back when it came out, and I even got about 100 pages in at the time. But like with so many books I seem to read, I put it down and end up reading other books, even though I was actually enjoying it! The big draw for this book was the fact that Eleanor is a historian, so what she is writing about in regards to Alexander the Great is based heavily on historical evidence, with a bit of fiction to make it read not like a textbook.
As I said, I was really enjoying this book. The different perspectives we were reading from were all interesting, although some were certainly more enjoyable than others. As a history nerd, I love reading historic fictions that has strong roots in history, so I can't believe I still haven't picked this book up. Especially since the fourth and final book - Dawn of Legends - is coming out in June. Will I have caught up by June? Probably not, but it would be nice to have finally read this first book by then!
Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
The plan has always been to read the book before watching the adaptation, which is why not having read this book yet bugs me so much - the show keeps tempting me every time I scroll past it on Netflix! There's been so much praise for this book and the TV adaptation it spawned (and a lot of controversy, but still) and I just know it's going to be a book that I'll really like (that doesn't sound right, but I'm sure you know what I mean).
I feel like out of all the books on this list, this is the one that I know the most about in regards to the gist of the story. I'm super intrigued by the synopsis, and although it's about a confronting topic - suicide - it's a book I know will be an important read, whether I end up liking it or not. As someone who wants to read more diversely this year, I know this book will be one that will impact my reading the most. And then I can finally binge watch the series. Out all of the books on this list, this is probably going to be one of the first that I pick up.
Frostfire by Amanda Hocking
Another book that I've started reading twice, only to put it down and forget it in my ever-growing sea of books! I loved the Trylle Trilogy, of which this is a spinoff, so to have not read this series yet is honestly a sin! I love the world that these series take place in and I really enjoy Amanda's writing - she's great at writing paranormal romance and urban fantasy series.
Since I was already enjoying the book back when I started reading it, I know this will be a book and trilogy that I end up flying through, it's just a matter of finally picking it up and not putting it down until I've read the final page. And since Amanda is an author who has a number of books out that I still need to read, and she just released the first book in a new series, I need to stop procrastinating and get caught up on all her books!
These are all books I know I'm going to really enjoy, I just need to commit and start reading! And since most are series, I hope that I can finish or make my way through a good chunk of a series by the end of the year.
Let me know some of the books you didn't get to last year but are determined to read this year, and be sure to add these books to your TBR, because even though I haven't read them yet, they're book you're going to want to read too!
And please, if you notice that I haven't read one of these books yet in a few months time, please share this blog post with me again so I can get my butt moving!
See You Soon!
