The future is looking bright for Reese Ellis. She has Mase Colt-Manning, the man of her dreams, and a new family following the unexpected arrival of her long-lost father. Everything is finally falling into place.
While Reese is away visiting her new family Mase spends time with Aida, a close childhood friends. Unrelated by blood, Mase and Aida were raised to think of each other as family, and that's how Mase sees her, as family. But Aida has other ideas, and when Reese returns, she can tell something isn't right. Aida clearly resents Reese, and excels at manipulative little games. Is Reese's new-found happiness about to fall apart?
With one small twist, Abbi took this book into such a different direction, as well as setting up the story for River's book.
After Reese spends a few weeks with her long-lost father and his family, she finally moves in with Mase at his Texas ranch. But his 'cousin' Aida isn't giving her a warm welcome. And then there's River 'Captain' Kipling, who is employed by their neighbour, who continues to flirt with her, and making her doubt Mase's relationship with Aida, since she's his stepfather's niece and adopted. As Mase thinks about putting a ring on her finger, Reese begins to wonder if she's really it for him. And just when her life is finally on the right track, one man pops back in her life, threatening to tear down everything she's built up for herself.
I'm so glad Abbi wrote Mase and Reese a duology. And I especially loved that this book took place in Texas rather than Rosemary Beach. It was great to see more of Major and River, who will be the focus of the final two books.
This book really picked up in the final third, with Abbi delivering a few shocks that I did not expect. Abbi completely changed to tone of the story in River's chapter, which has me super excited for his book. She did something I wasn't expected to see in these books, and it worked really well in the story.
With this ending of this book, I really wish Reese and Mase had a third book, but I'm hoping to see their story feature in the final two books. Along with Rush & Blaire and Grant & Harlow they are my favourite characters/couples.
I can't believe this series is nearing an end, and I am excited to see what happens in the final two books and how these characters finish the series. Abbi has continually delivered fantastic stories, ones that I want to reread the moment I finish them.
