Hey There Booklovers!
Once again, I'm committing a month of my life to write a novel of 50,000 words for NaNoWriMo!
Last year I participated in National Novel Writing Month for the first time, and I really enjoyed the experience. While I didn't 'win', I did get 21,164 words, which is pretty great achievement in itself. This year, I've decided to continue the novel I was working on last year.
So keep reading if you want to know a little more about what I'm working on!
The current titles for my novel is Time Will Not Separate Us, which is a fantasy involving time travel and a fantastical world. I do see that there will be title (and possibly cover) change the further along I get in the story, but for the time being I'm happy with the name and the cover.
Reading over the following synopsis that I wrote last year, I feel it may not do my idea justice, but like the title and cover, I know it will change once I write more and get into the world more.
It started with a ring and spanned centuries.
When Mia Logue comes across a medieval ring, her life gets a little more complicated as she realises that someone who existed over 500 years ago has been searching for her, and that he's in the 21st century. But what does he want with her?
As she comes to learn about the secrets of the ring, she journey's through her past lives in order to be finally be reunited with her soul mate.
Time travel is a dangerous thing, especially when there are powerful people trying to stop you from surviving.
I also thought I'd share with you the current excerpt I have on my NaNoWriMo account. This takes place at chapter 5.
As they walked through the gate into town, a number of townsfolk cheered at the sight of Mia, assembling back around the stake, ready to watch her burn. The guards forces her through the crowd, people coming up and yelling things in her face.
“Burn in hell!”
“Not even God can save you!”
“Not so powerful now witch!”
Mia ducked her head, trying to avoid their taunts. Although she knew they weren’t true at all, she still felt hurt by the comments. Finally, they reached a clearing, and for a moment, Mia was glad to be out of the crowd. Then she looked up and saw the stake, waiting for her.
With the help of another two guards, Mia was placed up on a small ledge, just big enough for her to stand on. Her hands were ties behind her back around the pole, and her feet were tied together. When the guards stepped down, Mia scanned the crowd.
Everyone was looking at her with excited and hungry eyes, eager for the burning to start. She had never understood why people enjoyed spectacles like this, but then again, she had never lived in an era where killing people like this was the norm. The people were still yelling insults at her, but she couldn’t hear the exact words. She didn’t want to anyway. As the guards began lighting the kindling that surrounded the wood stack, Mia’s eyes found Dominic.
He was standing on the edge of the crowd, disappointment and loss on his face. Mia suddenly realised what Dominic’s comments had meant, about this happening again, always like this. She realised that he had seen her burn before, the he was never able to save her. She had no idea how that was possible, and the entire situation still had so many unanswered questions, but she knew Dominic had lived this horror before. Mia then notices that she was crying, tears running down her face as the smoke thickened and the wood around her caught alight. Still, she did not take her eyes of Dominic.
Despite the situation she was in, despite about to be burnt alive, Mia somehow knew this wasn’t the end. Dominic had promised that she would be safe, and although this was hardly the safest situation she had ever been in, it was hard for her to imagine this being the end for her. As the flames engulfed her and her skin grew hot, she continued to look at Dominic. He held his hand to heart and said something. And although she couldn’t he him, she somehow knew what he said - Time Will Not Separate Us.
The world fell into darkness and Mia closed her eyes, letting the black abyss take her.
Let me know if you're also participating in NaNoWriMo this November! If you want, you can add me as a buddy with link the below.
Good luck to my fellow Wrimers!
